Ficus elastica 'Black' Saplings
Ficus elastica 'Black' Saplings
Ficus elastica 'Black', often referred to as the Black Rubber Plant, is a striking variety of the rubber plant known for its deep, dark green to nearly black leaves. This cultivar is prized for its dramatic foliage and ability to thrive in various indoor environments.
Key Features:
- Leaves: The leaves are thick, glossy, and can grow up to 12 inches long, with a rich coloration that adds a bold aesthetic to any space.
- Growth Habit: Typically grows to a height of 6-10 feet indoors, developing a bushy appearance.
Care Requirements:
- Light: Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate low light conditions. However, insufficient light may lead to faded leaf color.
- Watering: Water when the top 2-3 inches of soil are dry. During the growing season, this may mean watering every 1-2 weeks.
- Soil: Requires well-draining potting soil; a mix designed for houseplants works well.
Benefits:
- Air Purification: Like other varieties of Ficus elastica, it is effective at filtering indoor air pollutants.
- Low Maintenance: This hardy plant is relatively easy to care for, making it suitable for both novice and experienced plant owners.
Overall, the Black Rubber Plant is an attractive and functional addition to indoor spaces, contributing both beauty and improved air quality.
