Philodendron narrow escape netpot
Philodendron narrow escape netpot
The Philodendron Narrow Escape, also known as Philodendron 'Narrow Escape', is a popular houseplant celebrated for its elongated, narrow leaves that can create a striking vertical display. Here are the essential care tips for maintaining this plant, especially when grown in a net pot:
Light Requirements
- Optimal Light: Place in bright, indirect light. It can tolerate some low light but will grow more vigorously with adequate brightness. Avoid direct sunlight to prevent leaf burn.
Watering
- Watering Schedule: Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. This typically means watering every 1-2 weeks, depending on environmental conditions.
- Moisture Management: Ensure the pot has good drainage to prevent root rot. Philodendrons prefer slightly moist soil but can tolerate short dry spells.
Soil
- Soil Type: Use a well-draining potting mix that retains some moisture while allowing excess water to escape. A mix rich in organic matter is ideal.
Temperature and Humidity
- Ideal Temperature: Thrives in temperatures between 65°F and 85°F (18°C to 29°C). Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 55°F (13°C).
- Humidity: Prefers higher humidity levels; misting regularly or using a pebble tray can help maintain moisture in the air.
Fertilization
- Feeding: Fertilize monthly during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced liquid fertilizer. Reduce feeding in fall and winter.
Pruning and Maintenance
- Pruning: Remove any yellow or damaged leaves to encourage new growth. Regularly wipe leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust.
Toxicity
- Caution: Philodendrons contain calcium oxalate crystals, which are toxic if ingested. Keep away from pets and children.
By following these care guidelines, your Philodendron Narrow Escape can thrive, adding beauty and greenery to your indoor space.
